Parameters for the Indexing Initiative Demo were determined through experimentation with a Prototype pictured above. The Prototype has five paths each of which processes titles and abstracts and produces a list of MeSH Main Headings. Experiments showed that headings combined from the second and fifth paths produce the best results. The second path consists of extracting phrases (PhrasEx) and MetaMap processing followed by the restrict to MeSH process. The fifth path is based on PubMed's Related Citations algorithm. Headings from the two paths are combined into a final Ordered list of MeSH Main Headings by the Aggregate and Cluster process.
